Gas Boiler Repair, Maintenance & Replacement
We repair, maintain and replace residential gas boilers across South Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania — the hot water heating systems behind radiators and baseboard heat.
- Gas boiler repair when the heat is not right
- Annual maintenance before the heating season
- Honest guidance on repair versus replacement
- Gas boilers only — no oil-fired equipment
How a boiler heats your home
A boiler heats water and circulates it through pipes to radiators or baseboard units, which release the heat into each room. Unlike a furnace, there is no blower and no ductwork — the heat moves through water.
That difference shapes what goes wrong. Boiler problems tend to involve water: pressure, trapped air, circulation, leaks and the valves that control where hot water goes. And because a gas boiler burns fuel, combustion and venting are always part of the picture.
Common gas boiler problems
None of these necessarily means something serious. All of them are worth a look before they get worse — especially heading into winter.
-
No heat, or some radiators stay cold
Air trapped in the system, a circulator pump problem, a zone valve that is not opening or a boiler that is not firing can all leave part or all of the house cold.
-
Banging, gurgling or kettle-like noises
Trapped air, low water flow or mineral buildup in the heat exchanger all make noise. New or louder noises are worth looking at before they become failures.
-
Pressure gauge reading too high or too low
Pressure outside the normal range often points to an expansion tank, fill valve or leak problem.
-
Water dripping from the relief valve or around the boiler
A discharging relief valve is a safety device doing its job — the question is why. Any leak around a boiler deserves a prompt look.
-
The boiler turns on and off repeatedly
Short cycling can come from controls, sizing, flow problems or a failing component, and it wears equipment out faster.
-
The boiler will not light or keeps locking out
Ignition, flame sensing, venting and gas supply problems can all stop a gas boiler from firing. Gas components are never homeowner-serviceable.
If you smell gas, leave the building immediately and call 911 or your gas utility's emergency line from outside. If a carbon monoxide alarm is sounding, get everyone out and call 911.

What a boiler repair visit looks like
- You tell us what is happening
Which rooms are cold, what the pressure gauge reads, what you are hearing. Those details matter.
- We diagnose before we quote
We find what is actually wrong instead of guessing at parts from a description.
- We explain your options
Repair, or — when a boiler is near the end of its life — what replacement would involve, laid out plainly.
- You decide
No work happens until you have approved it.
What boiler maintenance generally involves
Annual maintenance looks at safety, efficiency and anything trending toward failure. What is appropriate varies with the boiler's type, age and condition; we confirm what your visit includes when you schedule.
-
Burner and ignition
Whether the boiler lights reliably and burns cleanly.
-
Venting and combustion
Whether exhaust is leaving the house the way it should — the core safety question on any gas appliance.
-
Pressure and expansion tank
Whether system pressure sits in its normal range and the expansion tank is doing its job.
-
Relief valve and safety controls
Whether the devices that protect the system are present and working.
-
Circulator pumps and zone controls
Whether heated water is actually moving to every part of the house that calls for it.
-
Leaks and visible condition
Signs of leaks, corrosion or wear on accessible piping and components.
When replacement makes sense
Replacement is worth discussing when a boiler needs a major repair late in its service life, when repairs keep recurring, or when a leak points to the heat exchanger itself. We will tell you plainly when repair is still the better value.
A replacement boiler should be sized to your home's actual heating needs rather than simply matched to the old unit, which may have been oversized from the start. We explain what drives the cost in your situation and give you a quote you can compare before any work begins.

Gas boiler questions
Do you work on oil-fired boilers?
No. We work on gas boilers only. We do not service oil-fired equipment of any kind.
How often should a gas boiler be serviced?
Most manufacturers recommend professional maintenance once a year, ideally before the heating season. Like any fuel-burning appliance, a boiler benefits from a regular check of combustion, venting and its safety controls, and many manufacturer warranties expect annual service.
Why are some of my radiators cold when others are hot?
The most common cause is air trapped in the system, which blocks hot water from reaching some radiators. Other causes include a circulator pump problem, a zone valve that is not opening, or low system pressure. Bleeding radiators can help with trapped air, but if it keeps coming back, something is letting air in or the system has another issue worth diagnosing.
Should I repair or replace my boiler?
It depends on the age of the boiler, the cost of the repair and how it has been performing. A single repair on a boiler in otherwise sound condition is usually worth doing. Repeated failures, a leaking heat exchanger or a major repair on an aging unit is where replacement starts to make more sense. We will tell you what we actually find and what each path involves.
What should I do if I smell gas near my boiler?
Leave the building immediately, do not operate light switches or electronics, and call 911 or your gas utility emergency number from outside. If a carbon monoxide alarm is sounding, get everyone outside and call 911. Do not wait on a service call for either situation.
How much does a boiler service call cost?
A service call during regular business hours is $99, and it is applied toward the repair if you go ahead. After-hours calls are available at a higher rate. Replacement is quoted separately after we have looked at your system.
